Meet Shawnee Rios
Shawnee Rios was born in Del Rio, TN, and raised in Morristown, TN. She moved to Florida and Texas in her teens, and lived in Georgia in her early twenties. She returned to Morristown in her mid-twenties, and then decided to move to Knoxville in 2011. The diversity and progressive nature of the city makes this her home.
Shawnee is very family oriented. She has 2 sisters, Avy and Marcie, and 4 nieces and nephews, Nevaeh, Kingston, Sid, and Keira. She enjoys spending time with her family almost every weekend.
She is a longtime advocate and activist for secular government, the civil rights of atheists, women, people of color, the LGBT+ community, immigrants, refugees, the mentally ill, disabled, the impoverished, and just about any other marginalized minority you can imagine. Shawnee has actively been a voice for those that did not feel they had one. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for Rationalists of East Tennessee, serves as Co-President and Treasurer for the Atheists Society of Knoxville, and is a founding Director of Freedom From Religion Foundation-East Tennessee Chapter.
